Hello King; trying to keep a promise! Gini Li (King Lee in Cherokee)
The beginning of my research about our Cherokee heritage; as I keep trying to keep my promise to King about our ancestors..
We were encouraged to forgive and forget the past and go on toward the future.
However, as Chief of The Alapaha River Band of Cherokee Inc., in Jennings, Florida, I say "remember the stories your Grandparents have told you; research your heritage and pass on your history to your children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors". I wish I had listened to my grandmother Winnie Allen Thomas; while she was talking with us about our Cherokee Heritage with more interest.
I remember some of the information she talked about but at the time I was too young to understand how much it would mean to me someday; now I know and I am trying very hard to remember so that I am able to do the research all I remember, so my children and grandchildren will know that keeping the rich truth going and growing, we will be able to keep our heritage alive and in the memories of others, the rich history in our Cherokee Tribe will continue and preserve our history.
Since this is Thanksgiving Eve, I thought this was appropriate writing for Gini Li's legacy.
We Love and Miss You Very Much!
